Interior Design Services in Calgary

For New Builds, Renovations, and Finish Refreshes

Considered interior selections that make a finished home feel resolved, not assembled. Selected with you, not handed down.

Finishes That Feel Inevitable, Not Decorated

The best interior design doesn’t announce itself. You walk into a finished home and the materials, the lighting, the proportions, the hardware — they all feel like they were always going to be that way. There’s no single “design moment” that demands attention. The home reads as resolved.

That’s deliberate, and it’s harder than it looks. Coordinating a hundred decisions — tile, paint, hardware, wood species, stone, fixtures, lighting, paneling, trim, cabinetry — into a coherent whole takes structure and time. Done well, it just feels right and you can’t say exactly why.

Arkadian Homes’ interior design service is built around that coherence. We work in structured phases — style discovery, palette development, material selection, fixture and hardware specification, custom built-ins — with explicit milestones so nothing gets rushed mid-build under deadline pressure. Whether we’re designing the interior of an Arkadian Homes custom home, supporting a renovation, or refreshing an existing space, the goal is the same: a finished interior that ages well and feels considered, not decorated.

A Structured Selection Journey

Style Discovery

Long conversations about how you live, what you respond to, what reference homes you’ve loved and why. The brief comes from your life, not a style label.

Palette & Mood Board

Material direction, color palette, finish character — established before individual selections, so every later decision fits the spine.

Material Selection

Stone, tile, hardwood, paint, wallpaper, paneling. Coordinated samples and physical reviews, not just digital renderings.

Fixture & Hardware Selection

Lighting, plumbing fixtures, door and cabinet hardware. Specified to match the palette and tested for daily livability.

Custom Cabinetry & Built-Ins

Kitchens, vanities, closets, mudroom storage, library walls — designed for your specific use, not pulled from a catalog.

Final Specification Package

A coordinated specification document the builder and trades can execute against. Nothing left to last-minute decision.

Selections That Go Beyond the Standard

Interior design at Arkadian Homes covers the full surface of the home and the elements that touch your daily routine. Below are the categories most clients invest in — but the right scope is shaped by the project.

  • Custom millwork, cabinetry, and built-ins
  • High-end kitchen and bath fixtures
  • Curated lighting plans for layered scenes
  • Stone, tile, and hardwood selections
  • Coordinated wall finishes (paint, wallpaper, paneling)
  • Window treatments and soft-furnishing direction
  • Smart-home integration design (touch panels, controls)
  • Coordination with your architect or builder

Interior Design FAQ

Do I have to use Arkadian Homes for construction too?
No. A lot of our interior-design clients are building with Arkadian Homes, but plenty are working with another builder, renovating an existing home, or refreshing finishes on a home they already live in. The interior design service stands on its own. If you do build with us, the integration is tighter — selections feed straight into construction without a hand-off.
How long does interior design take?
For a full ground-up custom home interior, three to five months running parallel with architectural design. For a renovation, two to four months depending on scope. For a finish refresh on a single room, four to eight weeks. The discovery call is where we set a realistic timeline based on your specific project and how decisive you are with material direction.
What if I already have my own interior designer?
We work with outside designers regularly, especially on Arkadian Homes builds where the client has an existing design relationship. The integration is the same as architectural design — we make sure the design vision is buildable and the selections coordinate with construction sequencing. We don’t need to be the lead; we just need to be in the loop early enough to integrate.
Can you help with just one room — kitchen or primary bath?
Yes. Single-room engagements are common, especially for clients who love their home overall but want one room brought up to a higher level. The discovery process is shorter, the scope tighter, and the cost lower. Kitchen and primary bath are the most common single-room projects.
How is interior design priced?
Either fixed-fee per phase or as a percentage of finish-selection value, depending on the project. For a new build, fixed-fee per phase usually works well. For renovations, percentage-based often makes sense because finish budgets evolve. We discuss both at the discovery call.
Do you source furniture too?
Sometimes. Built-in furniture (banquettes, library walls, custom dining tables) is part of the standard scope. Movable furniture — sofas, dining chairs, beds, freestanding pieces — is usually a separate service or handled by a furniture specialist we recommend. We’ll be clear at the discovery call about what’s in scope.
Can you work with an existing home I’ve already moved into?
Yes. Refreshes and renovations are a meaningful portion of our interior-design work. The brief is different from a new build — we’re working with existing constraints, what you love about the current home, and what you want to change. The discovery and selection phases are tuned to that.
What’s the difference between interior design and interior decorating?
Interior design covers the permanent and semi-permanent elements: cabinetry, lighting, plumbing fixtures, stone, tile, paint, hardware, built-ins. Interior decorating is more about furnishings and styling — sofas, rugs, artwork, accessories. Arkadian Homes’ interior design service focuses on the design layer, with optional support on decorating where it makes sense for the project.
